Testing and Standards
At Michigan Industrial Shoe our goal is to ensure that all of our offerings meet or exceed industry accepted safety standards. In the United States, the current applicable standard for protective footwear is referred to as ASTM F2413-11 Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Protective (Safety) Toe Cap Footwear. It defines the minimum requirements for the design, performance, testing, and classification of safety toe footwear. ASTM F2412-11 defines the procedures used to test protective toe footwear to the various safety classifications.ASTM F2892-11 applies to soft toe (non-safety) toe footwear that has been tested to the requirements for EH (electrical hazard) or SD (static dissipative). All of our safety toe footwear meets or exceeds the ASTM requirements for the type of footwear designated. As a leading supplier in the safety shoe industry, Michigan Industrial Shoe continues to update styles, safety characteristics and features as customers and industry requirements change. The ASTM ratings are listed in our catalog and on our website with each style of shoe.
To stay abreast of evolving footwear materials and constructions, as well as changing safety challenges, the ASTM F2413 committee regularly reviews the standards and seeks to update them approximately every five years. The new ASTM guidelines have been designated as F2413-18. They are replacing ASTM F2413-11. The ASTM Committee recognizes that it will take some time to clear all existing inventories of ASTM F2413-11 labeled footwear and to test and label new production safety toe footwear. Suppliers and manufacturers will be making the update on new orders and would likely make the full transition within one to two years.
