Dr. Martens was formed in 1960 when the Griff family, a producer of quality footwear in North Hampton, England, combined their talents with Dr Maertens of Munich, Germany an inventor of a shoe sole almost literally made of air. They jointly created a boot that defined comfort but was practical, hard-wearing and a design classic.
